In fact, this is never a day gone by without us seeing an anime or two. But I have to say that, this is the most unique anime I have ever seen. Take not, it's by Walt Disney and it's Japanese! The story is well-written. It's about maintaining the balance of nature through real love. I agree that the movie is for kids, but mind you, my 62-year-old dad was watching this with me and my teenage siblings. He was even giving comments and good reactions to every scene he sees.

So, I think that this movie is not just for kids, but for those who feel young at heart, as well. For its great concept, values, animations, picture, and setting, I rate this animation 4 out of 4.

Re: Repo Men

The story was futuristic indeed. I liked the sci-fi concept of the movie. And there is indeed a striking resemblance of the story with how our world operates today. What goes around comes around. But still, I felt that the acting from Jude Law was very stiff, and “rehearsed”. The element of spontaneity was absent from his cold, indifferent role. Other characters in the film were not fully developed; they leave us in a mystery/confusion to know more about them. Being a medical enthusiast, I loved the concept of new organs like those used in the film. 2 out of 4

Re: Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief

With an intriguing start of a seemingly interesting storyline, the film fails to live up to the charm of its trailers. The Greek mythology is convoluted with Percius not being Zeus’ son and that makes me question other ‘facts’ of the movie. The character of Medusa played by Uma Thurman is certainly entertaining and freaky. The whole sequence of Percy killing Medusa was one of the best parts of the movie. Few other snippets were catchy too, but the end of the movie worked out pretty lame for my taste. A good start being bland later would only deserve 2 out of 4 from me.

Re: The Runaways

I'm very interested to see it too. The beginning was intriguing, but ‘expected’. But the story takes it to a whole new level as it proceeds. The elements of companionship, suspense, and betrayal make the film better. I’m glad to have seen something different than blood-thirsty typical zombies. Also, who doesn’t want a sexy hunk as the town Sheriff! Married, but macho nonetheless! One of my personal favorites is the nuclear explosion scene, even though I know that was bit of a stretch. Wouldn’t keep my hopes “too high” for the acting part, but this film is few of the worth-watching ones this season. 3 out of 4

Re: The Runaways

Unfamiliar with the popularity of the actual girl band, all I heard about the movie was the criticism of tabloid writers over Fanning doing an Oh-So-Above-Her-Age role in this film. The trailer of the movie did not quite work for me either, but I’m really glad to have watched the extraordinary performance of Cherrie Currie played by Dakota Fanning. It’s awesome that she broke out of her typical roles and injected versatility into her career. Honestly, for me, Dakota playing 5 minutes of vampire in the Twilight Saga wasn’t promising enough, so it’s great to see some raw deal out of her. Kristen Stewart was equally good and it’s a relief to see her out of the plain-Jane persona of Bella in Twilight. The girls rock! 3.5 out of 4!

Re: Cop Out

The duo of “cop buddies” with Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan works with me. Tracy Morgan had a quirky, slap-on-knees performance in certain scenes like the classic “No…No…” in the car. The profanity was needless and excessive for my preference. The plot was quite shaky with the whole struggle for a baseball card that did not prove to be worth the fuss. It’s one of those mindless comedies that you can watch when you don’t want an emotional roller-coaster ride. The cast members had the talent but it could not be delivered through given story, script and direction. 2 out of 4!

Re: Greenberg

Since the movie stars Ben Stiller, some may have expected a typical Stiller comedy. I was pleasantly surprised, not less because I hate most Ben Stiller comedies except maybe Zoolander. Greenberg is a gem of a film with characters that people can relate to. I admit I relate to the Florence character and her approach to life: saying yes to everything and everyone because it was easier than saying no, which was pretty much what I did for most of my life. Stiller’s character is pretty relatable too, but that doesn’t mean it’s likeable. But that's okay, because it’s rarely the likeable character that makes an indelible impression on viewers. Although Stiller’s acting was good, you could still see bits of the hideously unfunny Stiller we saw in movies like Duplex. But, to be fair, Stiller was good, and this was probably the best acting moment of his career.

The great thing about this movie is it’s not about people who messed up their lives and didn’t know that they did; it’s about people who consciously made the decision to live aimless lives. It’s sad, it can be funny at times, but it’s almost painfully realistic. This is what a famous critic meant when he said that the best kind of film is the one that functions as a mirror and shows us a reflection of ourselves that is both flawed and beautiful. 4 out of 4 stars.
Re: The Runaways
I’d been looking forward to watching this movie for ages. I couldn’t watch it at a cinema because the cinemas around here didn’t show it. Although I was born in the mid 80s, I grew up listening to Runaways songs like Cherry Bomb, I Love Rock and Roll, and the cover of Crimson and Clover. Anyway, I loved the movie. Which may seem surprising, because I normally avoid any movie with Kirsten Stewart in it, Panic Room included. Anyway, the movie was great. I really got a feel for the era, and I feel like I got to know more about Joan Jett and the Runaways. The acting was good; Kirsten looked like she made an effort here and I commend her for that (I give credit where credit is due) but Dakota Fanning stole the show as sexy Cherie Currie. You can tell that Dakota’s glad to play a different character from the precocious little girls we’re accustomed to seeing her play. The soundtrack rocks; and the movie itself was a blast and a roller coaster and a mouthful of pop rocks and soda all in one. I give this 4 stars out of 4.
Re: Did You Hear About the Morgans?

The movie is not that impressive; just average. I saw the typical Hugh Grant both as an actor and as a man with a British accent. I also saw the typical Sarah Jessica Parker. I saw nothing new nor inventive in their roles in this film. I didn't even consider them acting. Instead, they were plainly showing the REAL them. It's just their roles were not challenging. Anyone could have their roles in this movie industry, even those who were just starting an acting career in Hollywood.

The movie was not that funny nor that romantic. It was just so-so. Also, it was a little dragging to watch.

BTW, I noticed something about Sarah that I never noticed in her Sex and the City series and movies...her legs are NOT so good-looking. But anyways, the movie did not appeal so much to my senses so I give it 1.25 out of 4 stars.
Re: Blind Side

Considering the fact that this is a true story, I thought it was going to be dull and dragging, but it was not. It was more of an inspiring and life-changing film than just plane drama. I wish there are other affluent families who would adopt kids or adults who are less fortunate. What I like most about this story is that it can make a great impact on discrimination of skin color and races. It could even promote equality in the society. I hope the teachers, counselors, and community leaders could show this film to their colleagues, families, friends, staff, parents, and students. Who knows, it might touch someone's life the way it has touched mine.

Moreover, I want to give two thumbs up to Sandra Bullock for effectively carrying out her roles as a mother, a wife, and a friend in this movie. I didn't know she could pull-off a serious role in drama films after her hilarious romantic comedy film "The Proposal".

I give 4 out of 4 stars in this film.

Re: The Runaways

I was born in the late 1980s so I neither got the chance to know an all-girl rock band The Runaways nor heard their music. So I couldn't really compare the band in this movie with the real one. But this review is not about comparing the actors with the characters their portraying. So, I would just comment on the music and the versatility of the main actresses: Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning.

I have seen quite a few movies of Kristen where she plays a lesbian role, but they nothing compared to this one. In this movie, I commend Kristen for an excellent portrayal of a rocker-lesbian role. She is way too distant from her reserved and vulnerable Bella role in The Twilight movies.

As for Dakota Fanning, wow, this girl has been giving me a series of surprises! The only I could remember about this amazing talent is the fact that she is a talented little girl. Just for the record, it took me until The Twilight Saga: Eclipse to realize that the female Vulturi was played by her! And now this role as a member of a rock band? WOW! She totally deserves to be called an ACTRESS. She does know how to act--professionally and outstandingly.

For someone who prefers to listen to an all-boy rock band, I give this movie 3 out of 4 stars, because it has showed me the reason why girls form or join rock bands these days.

Re: The Losers

This is a movie that could leave someone's mouth wide open for the next few seconds...,This movie is next to "The A-Team" on my list of TOTALLY amazing action movies in the 21st century. Just like the movie on top of my list, some action scenes in this movie were a little crazy yet very entertaining and astonishing.

Although the concept of faking your death is nothing new in the movie industry, the said concept still made an impact to me as a viewer. And the idea of actually putting themselves in their respective coffins in order to get back to the 'living' world is,I think, the best yet less predictable way.

Aisha's character is definitely a favorite of mine. She's too gorgeous to be kicking bad men's butts. She's too sexy to be handling big firearms. And she's definitely a hottie in everything she does in this movie. I even thought she's better than Lara Croft!

BTW, for someone who has been dreaming of possessing her very own hummer car, I was left open-mouthed by the yellow hummer limousine in this movie.

I give 4 out of 4 stars for this film.

Re: Cop Out

When I first saw the trailer of this movie in the cinema, I was like, "I NEED TO WATCH THAT MOVIE, BY HOOK OR BY CROOK." And I did...with my dad, who happens to be an avid fan of Bruce Willis, too.

I could describe the movie using three perfect adjectives: HILARIOUS, FEEL-GOOD, and ACTION-FILLED. This is such a well-done movie. The action scenes were not superficial. The setting was perfect for the concept of the film. The tandem between Bruce and Fred was just so ideal. There was never a dull scene in this film. Each part has plenty of emotions to extract from the viewer. You can either laugh, cry, get excited, be thrilled, or fall off your seat! I have two most favorite parts of the movie. One was when Fred found out about how faithful his wife was to him. Second was what Bruce did to her wife's new husband during his daughter's wedding.

In all aspects, I give this movie 3.75 out of 4 stars.

Re: Sherlock Holmes

Ass-kicking in slow motion? Check. Ridiculous story? Check. Director Guy Ritchie is at it again, but this time he’s bringing Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law to the party with his own take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s “Sherlock Holmes”.

But before you blame anything on elementary, suffice to say that this isn’t the “Sherlock Holmes” you know from your story books. This spruced-up, big-budget Hollywood version of the London detective has Holmes reincarnated as a sharp-talking, thug-clobbering, douche. And with Robert Downey Jr. playing Sherlock Holmes, and Jude Law playing his ever-reliable sidekick Watson, things only get better.

Sure the dialogue is sometimes too fast for its own good, and the plot can lose you faster than a Londoner in a pub, but watching the amazing rapport between Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. is definitely worth the price of admission.

Anyone looking for a thought provoking whodunit can pick up the books. But for everyone else looking for the thrills and the popcorn, go see the movie.

Rating? 2.5 out of 4.

Re: An Education

Actress Carey Mulligan steals the show with this one. And with a star-studded cast that includes Peter Saarsgard, Alfred Molina and Olivia Williams; that’s saying an awful lot.

This coming-of-age story about a teenage girl (Carey Mulligan) and her love-affair with a dashing older man (Peter Saarsgard) is forced to choose between the responsible life, and the exciting one. There aren’t any big explosions to propel this little movie about growing up, but director Lone Schrefig plays his scenes beautifully as Mulligan’s character gambles her future away by dreaming of escaping with her older lover.

Unfortunately, the film isn’t without its flaws. The true nature of their affair seems too one sided by the time everything comes to a boil, and the confrontation scenes seem too reserved to make any true impact.

But all in all it’s still a captivating film worth watching for Mulligan’s performance and the film’s small nuggets of brilliance.

Rating? 3 out of 4.

Re: Where the Wild Things Are

Fans of the book are definitely going to be in for a surprise.

Whether that’ll be a good thing or a bad thing is based completely on how loyal you expect the movie to be. But let’s make things clear from the get go, this isn’t the classic children’s book you read growing up.

Director Spike Jonze takes Maurice Sendak’s kid’s story in a bold new direction. Weaving in layers that weren’t in the original material, “Where the Wild Things Are” takes you on a journey that admittedly treads into art house territory. The pace of the movie is definitely something a lot of audiences won’t appreciate, but what Spike Jonze loses in traditional storytelling, he makes up in capturing the sincerity, vulnerability and magnificence of a child’s imagination. In the end, the characters come out to be as endearing as they are strange.

Love it or hate it, “Where the Wild Things Are” is definitely one of the most daring adaptations in recent memory and requires an open mind to fully appreciate. But make no mistake, this children’s classic isn’t for kids.

Rating? 3 out of 4.
Re: Alice in Wonderland

Tim Burton and co. must have been as mad as a hatter to royally screw up this movie.

“Alice in Wonderland” is an acid trip of a film that is exactly what it is, an orgasmic visual treat with no real substance. That’s not even mentioning the eventual crash in the end. Despite the grandiose art direction and superb visuals, the story falls flat with characters as barren as they are beautiful.

Despite being nineteen years of age, the all-grown-up Alice displays no sense of maturity whatsoever, and bungles around like a child in a series of scenes that leads up to a final battle that is as clichéd as it is predictable.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Tim Burton just magically fell in love with his visuals and forgot to read the script. Despite being a film from the same director of the fantastically imagined “Big Fish”, Tim Burton fails to transport us anywhere past the rabbit hole.

Rating? 0.5 out of 4.
Re: Green Zone

If you’re looking for the same thrills that made the Bourne series a box-office success, you’re looking in the wrong place.

Despite the fact that “Green Zone” does manage to reunite leading man Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass for what seems to be another romp in Bourne’s backyard, the film lacks any semblance of what made their previous efforts worth the ticket price.

The action sequences are tight, and the story moves forward quickly enough, but without any real characters to care about, the movie spirals into cookie-cutter, on-the-nose propaganda territory. The plot for missing WMDs is intriguing enough, but the lack of any clear motivation for the main characters puts very little at stake.

Coming straight off the heels of a proper military thriller like “Hurt Locker”, this film just fails to meet expectations. I guess Bourne and action fans alike will have to look for their fix elsewhere.

Rating? 1.5 out of 4.
Re: Greenberg

Ben Stiller pulls off the best of the comedies like the Heartbreak Kid, Zoolander, etc. He just has that element of subdued eccentricity that goes well with such roles. Greenberg is not one of those loud-at-your-face comedy films. I like the fact that it’s kind of underrated and implicit humor which actually shows the ironic lives of ex-classmates and best-buddies. The phrase “...trying Nothing for a while” cracks me up! It’s true…many of us wander aimlessly; others follow monotonous chores of their lives. It’s great to have found a reason to “live” life. That held true for Greenberg…eventually! Acting, directing, and EVERYTHING go fine for me…and hopefully for everyone else! 3 out of 4!

Re: The Bounty Hunter

Gerard Butler with Jennifer Aniston – I expected an epic comedy…which actually materialized into comic fiasco. The trailer is way better than sitting through those 90 mins when KNOW what’s coming. Apart from my cynic explanation, the movie did have its high moments like Gerard getting slapped from his “oh-so-experienced” mom-in-law, Jen trying & crying, etc. The element of “thrill” in the movie was quite overrated. Both celebs have done MILES better work than this one, so it was more disappointing to see this great actors pulling off a job like this. The Back-Up Plan was “almost” funny. I didn’t think it was well executed comedy. Some bits of the movie were hilarious, but I wish those occurred more often. The acting of the characters was about average but I felt the screenplay and direction could have been better. The ending was not-so-convincing for me but the parts like J-Lo busting up her car, walking with tightly-closed legs at the clinic, and conversing with her married friend were pretty cool. For the shear “randomness” of the film, I’d rate it 2 out of 4

Re: Daybreakers

Vampires ruling the world, humans farmed for blood, and the human race in extinction?! That is beyond CRAZY and SCARY! I hope this will never happen. The movie has totally affected me and my senses. I'm starting to think of choosing between immortality and humanity. lol

A lot of vampire movies have been created to entertain people, but this one just insanely ROCKS! The concept was great, and never thought of before. I mean, I for one, never thought of seeing vampires purchase human blood even at the most expensive price. I happen to be a regular blood donor--but only to those who need them to extend their lives; not for vampires! Definitely not for vampires! If that was the case, I would sell my blood at a very Unreasonable rate to them. hahaha

I really love the concept of this movie. It involves vampires who are business-minded enough to monopolize blood supply by turning everyone into vampires so there would be more demands of their product--blood.

The action, thrill, script, concept, cinematography, actors, and setting all play a perfect combination to make this film a kick-ass movie. I give it 4 out of 4 stars!
